We decided to rent bikes today, which allowed us to explore many of Berlin's ultra cool neighborhoods. Our journeys took us first to the outstanding Winterfeldt Market, where we sampled a stunning grilled fish sandwich (pictured above). Then to the Huhnerhaus, a little stand cranking out the most unbelievably luscious rotisserie chicken, then on to a wonderful park to drink beer and listen to music. When we finally parted with our bikes, we settled in for dinner at the unfortunately named Asian Fusion restaurant "Dudu." Bellies full of noodles and a delicious "Crunchy Dudu" (see pics for explanation), we headed to the Kaffe Burger venue for the surreal experience of watching a Yiddish klezmer band crank out classic yiddish and jewish tunes, including Hava Negila.
We aren't usually big bike riders. In fact, we have never really ridden bikes in a city before. But everyone in Berlin seems to be riding around, and for good reason. This is an incredibly friendly biking city. Most of the expansive sidewalks feature dedicated bike lanes, and unlike New York, biking in Berlin is easy, totally stress free, and really fun. It is also a great way to cover a lot of ground. When you visit Berlin, we highly recommend renting a bike, at least for one day.
